Montgomery County, Tx March 10, 2008:
Firefighters from the Lake Conroe and Montgomery Fire Departments were dispatched to a house fire in the Lake Conroe Forest Subdivision just before 3 AM this morning. Arriving units reported a 1 story home heavily involved in fire, and requested additional assistance from the Conroe and Magnolia Fire Departments.
Prior to the arrival of firefighters 3 passersby, 2 men and 1 woman discovered the fire and attempted to enter the home, but were forced back by heat and smoke. They then ran across the street and alerted neighbors to the fire.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent homes, but were unable to enter initially due to the amount of fire inside the home. After knocking down the fire, they were able to enter and located the bodies of two victims, who are believed to be the residents of the home. The residents of the home are a male and female, both in their seventies. The female resident reportedly had an extensive medical history and was confined to her bed. Numerous Oxygen bottles were found in the home. It is unknown at this time if the home had working smoke detectors.
At this time, the victims have not been positively identified, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine their cause of death. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department responded to assist and the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.
