On April 14, 2008, a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office unit was flagged down regarding a Forgery (Counterfeit Currency). The business receiving the counterfeit bill was AT&T Wireless Country. The suspect, an unknown White/Male, had previously left the scene after purchasing an accessory for a cellular phone. This unknown male presented a $100.00 bill which was later determined to be counterfeit. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division received the case with limited suspect information. A detective conducted a follow-up investigation, and informed the AT&T business of the action to take should the subject return.
On April 26, 2008, the subject returned to the business in an attempt to retrieve a refund by returning the cellular phone accessory. The subject sent his daughter into the business. AT&T quickly notified the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Patrol units quickly responded and arrested Ms. Crystalynn Catherin Reider, W/F 23, she was charged with Forgery (Financial Instrument) – Third Degree Felony. As a result of continued investigative work, Ms. Reider’s father, John Edgar Reider, W/M 51, was arrested later that same day. Further investigation revealed that after being arrested on April 26, 2008, by a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office patrol unit, Mr. Reider was eventually transferred to the Madison County Sheriff’s Jail facility on an outstanding Felony Warrant for Forgery (Financial Instrument). Mr. Reider was being held on a $3,500.00 bond.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division Burglary and Theft Squad, continued their investigation, and on May 21, 2008, filed a Felony charge of Forgery (Financial Instrument). Because of his extensive criminal history and background, Mr. Reider received a $100,000.00 bond on this latest charge in Montgomery County. Additional investigations are ongoing on Mr. Reider by the United States Secret Service, Conroe Police Department, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
