Conroe, TX (Montgomery County Monitor) – Early this afternoon, Needham Volunteer Fire Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Officers and Montgomery County Hospital District personnel responded to an emergency call on Valiant Oak near Climbing Tree just North of SH 242.The call was dispatched as an auto-pedestrian accident. Crews arrived on scene to find an adult female, who was in the late stages of pregnancy, pinned underneath her vehicle. The details of how she came to rest under her vehicle are unclear as there were apparently no direct witnesses to the incident. Her 14 month-old daughter also suffered traumatic injuries during the accident.
A neighbor across the street was home early from work doing some household chores. Two men came to his door and asked if he had a jack in order to remove the vehicle from the female. The neighbor grabbed his jack and raced outside to the SUV and proceeded to lift the vehicle off of the pinned mother.
Due to the severity of the injuries of both parties, medics called for an air ambulance to transfer the patients downtown. The child was quickly moved to the first ambulance and emergency service personnel worked to stabilize her. Another ambulance arrived on scene and additional medics joined Needham firefighters in order to prepare the mother for transport. Another Needham firetruck was dispatched to the scene to prepare a landing zone for the air ambulance. Shortly thereafter, the medics called off the helicopter due to the deteriorating condition of the pediatric patient. Both patients were transported by ground to a local hospital for treatment.
The pediatric patient later succumbed to her injuries after transport to the hospital.
According to DPS Communications, the adult female was listed in critical condition as of Wednesday evening.
The Department of Public Safety is currently investigating this incident.
