MCSO Press Release – Pursuit, Fatal Shooting – Brunette

Montgomery County – Walker County, Texas – A suspect fled from Montgomery law enforcement officers in a vehicle into Walker County where deputies were injured and the suspect died of a gunshot wound(s).

June 19, 2008, just before 5:00 PM the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office dispatch aired via police radio an “Attempt to Locate” for a maroon extended cab pick-up truck. A Montgomery Sheriff’s Office deputy located the vehicle on FM 1097 as it traveled east into Willis. Two Montgomery County Pct. 1 Deputy Constables also identified the vehicle and initiated a pursuit as the truck traveled north towards Huntsville.

The driver of the pickup shot out the back window of his own vehicle and began firing gunshots at the pursing law enforcement vehicles. One Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was struck by gunfire and the deputy was seriously injured from shattered glass in his eyes.

The suspect vehicle was chased into the Walker County, Huntsville area where the Walker County Sheriff’s Office and Huntsville Police Department assisted. At least one citizen’s vehicle was struck by the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect shot at law enforcement vehicles several times throughout the pursuit.

The pursuit terminated in a rock quarry at the end of 16th Street in Huntsville where the suspect exchanged gunfire with officers and rammed a Deputy Constable’s vehicle.

Three Montgomery County Pct. One Deputy Constables received minor injuries. The Deputy Constable’s were treated and released from a local hospital.

The suspect was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he was Life Flighted to Herman Hospital in Houston. The suspect was pronounced dead as the result of a gunshot wound.

The Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
