Conroe PD Press Release – Fatal MVA – Tomasson

On Sunday morning, July 20, 2008, approximately 5:40 am, Conroe Police officers and investigators responded to a reported fatality accident in 1400 block of Wilson Road at the intersection of IH-45 in Conroe. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle had left the roadway, overturned, and partially ejected the driver of the vehicle.

Officers initially received a report that two male subjects and a female subject had allegedly attempted to take a flat-screen TV valued at $900.00 from a local Wal-Mart store located in the 1400 block of North Loop 336 West. The suspects were allegedly loading the television into a blue 1997 GMC pickup when Wal-Mart personnel intervened in the alleged theft and removed the television from the bed of the truck as the suspects were attempting to leave.

The location of the accident and the Wal-Mart store are less than one mile apart. While enroute to Wal-Mart, officers received a second call that a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved in the theft had been involved in an accident.

The initial accident investigation revealed the vehicle was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed in the 1400 block of Wilson Road, struck a guardrail, left the roadway, overturned, rolled down an embankment and partially ejected the driver of the vehicle. The vehicle stopped at the bottom of the embankment near the main lanes of IH-45 southbound. The driver was identified as Christafer Tomasson, 02-03-83, and Tomasson was pronounced deceased at the scene by Montgomery County Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1, Lanny Moriarity. Moriarity ordered an autopsy on Tomasson. A 30 year old female passenger was transported by air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. The third passenger, a male subject, fled the scene on foot and was not apprehended.

Conroe Police Department Traffic Investigators are continuing the investigation.
