MCFMO Press Release – Forestgate Park Fire – Woodlands

The playground equipment at Forestgate Park was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning. Montgomery County Arson Investigators have concluded that the fire was intentionally set by unknown person(s). The large plastic and metal children’s slide unit was completely destroyed with the loss estimated at sixty thousand dollars ($60,000.00).

This brings the total to at least four fires having been deliberately set in the last 2 ½ years at Forestgate Park in The Woodlands, causing an estimated damage of over $70,000.00.

While small park fires and other acts of vandalism continue to occur on a fairly regular basis throughout The Woodlands’ parks, there seems to have been a lull or slowdown in serious fires that cause large amounts of damage. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office in conjunction with the Woodlands Park Rangers continues to investigate these intentionally set fires.

According to Assistant Fire Marshal Scott Burlin, “There always seems to be a spike in vandalism and fires in the parks during the summer while all of the kids are out on summer break from school. As in most of these park fires, we have no leads and very little information to go on. We would encourage residents to come forth with any information in any of these costly park fires”.
