MCSO Press Release – Drowning – East County

Death Investigation – Drowning

This afternoon, August 26, 2008, around 6:30 PM, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the parents of a 3-year old boy that was found missing from his home in the 19200 block of South Rayburn Drive in the East Montgomery County area.

When deputies arrived at the residence they learned that a 3-year old boy had been outside with his father and grandfather and was last seen walking toward the family’s home away from a small stock pond in the backyard. Later when the 3-year old could not be found a search of the area was made by family members and emergency services was called for help.

Deputies on the scene began an immediate search of the surrounding area, homes, and businesses. With the assistance of Montgomery County Pct. 4 deputy constable’s tracking dog the attention was turned to the stock pond. The New Caney Fire Department, The Woodlands Fire Department, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team worked together conducting search and rescue efforts.

The 3-year old was found around 9:50 PM in about 12 feet of water. Justice of the Peace J. Metts had the body of the victim taken to the Forensic Center in Conroe.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office will continue their investigation, but at this time the death of the child appears to be a tragic accident.
