On 08-26-08, Conroe Police investigators and uniformed officers arrested a twenty seven year old Conroe resident on a charge of capital murder related to the death of an autistic three year old child.
On Thursday, 08-21-08, approximately 11:00 pm, Conroe Police Communications Officers received a call from Hermann Hospital, Houston, that child had been transported Hermann from Conroe and that the child appeared to have been a victim of possible abuse. Conroe Police Investigators traveled to Hermann Houston to investigate. Investigators were able to learn the condition of the child and also speak with the mother and her boyfriend while at the hospital.
Investigators were notified by Hermann Hospital officials in the early morning hours of Saturday, 08-23-08, that the child had died.
The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and initial results showed the child suffered what appeared to be a serious injury to the back of the head, a broken left arm, multiple bruises in different stages of healing, and what appeared to be burns to the bottom of the child’s feet.
As a result of the investigation and evidence at hand, a warrant for one count of capital murder was issued for Chase Cannon, 02-28-81. Investigator’s attempts to locate Cannon were unsuccessful. The warrant information and a description of Cannon and his vehicle was forwarded to the Patrol Division. Conroe Police uniformed officers located Cannon and his vehicle at approximately 5:30 pm near the 4000 block of North I-45, and conducted a traffic stop at which time Cannon was arrested. Cannon was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and remains in jail under no bond.
