MCSO Press Release – Shootings – Qualset

On 08-29-2008 at approximately 2020 hours, patrol units from the Montgomery Co. Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting call in the 17000 Block of Royal Coach Ln in Cut and Shoot. Upon the Deputies arrival they found a 24 Y.O.A. W\F with a gunshot wound to the head lying on the ground in front of the residence. Deputies detained and identified 3 males at this location and secured the scene for medical personnel to come in.

The gunshot victim was transported to Herman Hospital via Phi Air Helicopter in critical condition. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit arrived and all persons were interviewed.

James Herbert Qualset Dob: 01-03-1983 of Dallas Texas was arrested at the scene and charged with Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon (Fel-1) and Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon (Fel-3). No Bond has been set on either of the charges.

It was learned that the Victim and the Suspect are both from Dallas and had just arrived together in Montgomery County on this date to see friends. There is no clear motive at this time for the shooting. The investigation is on-going at this time by Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit. At the time of this press release, the victim was listed in extremely critical condition and was undergoing surgery at Herman Hospital in Houston. Detectives are not releasing the name of the Victim pending notification of family members in Dallas.

Self Inflicted Gunshot Wound Investigation

On 08-30-2008 at approximately 0213 Hours, Deputies from the Montgomery Co. Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 700 Block of Charter Oaks Drive in the River Plantation Subdivision in reference to a shooting.

Upon Deputies arrival they found a 69 Y.O.A. W\M with a gunshot wound to the face. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and learned that the gunshot wound was likely self inflicted. The victim in this case was transported by Phi Air Helicopter to Herman Hospital in Houston and was listed in critical condition at the time of this press release.

The investigation is currently on-going by Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit. The name of the gunshot victim is being withheld at this time.
