MCFMO Press Release – South County Arson Investigation

The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office has joined forces with all police agencies in South Montgomery County to conduct a joint investigation into a series of dumpster fires and one large house fire. On August 31, 2008, a dumpster was set on fire at Ford Elementary on Richards road at around 0300 hours. At the same time a suspicious fire occurred in a 4000 square foot home under construction near Ford Elementary. The home, valued at around $400,000.00, was completely destroyed by the fire. The new owners were just weeks away from moving into their new custom dream home at 30635 Forestry Drive in Spring Texas.

A few nights later on Sept 3rd, several more dumpsters were intentionally set on fire in the same area, all in a one hour period.

Over the past several months many of these dumpster fires have occurred at Oak Ridge High School, Oak Ridge Elementary, Oak Ridge Ninth Grade (old York), Hauser, Vogel, and Ford Elementary. Other businesses in that area have been hit as well.

The public is encouraged to contact the Fire Marshal’s Office or the Montgomery County Crime Stoppers, 1-800-STOP-7867, with any information about this series of fires. Anonymous tips can also be made through the Montgomery County Crime Stoppers Web Page at http://www.montgomerycountycrimestoppers.org
