Montgomery County Emergency Management is monitoring Ike’s advancement. According to evacuation plans for the area, Montgomery County is a pass-through county. This means that evacuees from the Gulf Coast are passing through on Interstate 45 and US 59 traveling north to flee the storm. Shelters will be opened in counties north of Montgomery County for those leaving the Gulf Coast areas.
It is time to listen to radio and television for updated reports and initiate personal plans for safety if required.
Montgomery County hazards from hurricanes include high winds, tornadoes, and heavy rains. Hurricanes are highly unpredictable, increasing greatly in strength with very little warning. In Montgomery County residents should prepare for these hazards.
Flooding caused by the torrential rains can occur in both coastal and inland areas. The slower the storm moves the greater the flooding may be. Flooding, including flash flooding, is the number one cause of weather-related deaths in Texas.
