MCSO Press Release – Officer Involved Shooting – Magnolia Area (UPDATED) – Pinson

The investigation of the shooting incident that occurred on Monday, October 13, 2008, on FM 1488 is still under investigation and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is working cooperatively with the Texas Rangers and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

The suspect who fired upon officers and who died of gunshots at the scene has been identified as:

Tommy Joe Pinson W/M DOB 11/11/1971 Magnolia, Texas

Pinson was wanted for manufacturing controlled substances in Montgomery County and had an extensive criminal history.

There were three other individuals who were passengers in Pinson’s car that were injured during the exchange of gunfire.

W/M born in 1971 from Houston, who was injured by gunfire,
W/F born in 1986 from Magnolia, who received a minor injury to her leg, and
W/F born in 1985 from Magnolia, who was injured by gunfire.

Names of the involved parties are not being made available while the investigation is on-going.

The officers who discharged their weapons are:

Lt. Philip Cash – Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SIU Supervisor
Lt. Cash has been with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office since June 1993

Deputy Mike Plata – Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Patrol
Deputy Plata has been with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office since Oct 2000

Detective Don Likens – Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SIU
Detective Likens has been with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office since Jan. 2002

Detective Stewart Hightower - Montgomery Police Department assigned to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SIU.

All officers are expected to return to full duty on Thursday, Oct 16, 2008.
