MCSO Press Release – Weekly Blotter 10-28-08

District 1 – Lt. Darrel Conn (North County)

On 10/22/08 Sergeant Moya responded to the 500 block of Cumberland Court, in Conroe, in reference to a Burglary of a Motor Vehicle. On his arrival, the complainant reported that unidentified person(s) had stolen her purse from her vehicle. The purse had reportedly contained checks, keys, an IPod and a camera. A laptop computer was also stolen. This type case can lead to Forgery, Credit Card Abuse and additional Thefts or Burglaries. All persons should use caution in leaving personal items inside vehicles that are parked and unattended.

On 10/23/08 Deputies responded to the 13,000 block of Wigginsville Road, in Conroe, in reference to a disturbance. On arrival, two male roommates reported they had a verbal argument and threats were reportedly made during the argument. Class “C” Assault by Threat citations were issued and the case is referred to Justice Court for disposition.

On 10/23/08 at approximately 12:45 PM, a minor traffic situation occurred at Loop 336 and N. Frazier, in Conroe. A black Ford Explorer driven by a Dennis Malachow had struck the rear of a vehicle being driven by Captain Ken Ariola of the Sheriff’s Office. The impact was very minor and no damage was found on either vehicle. Upon interviewing the driver, Malachow, and further investigation at the scene, determined that the black Ford Explorer had just been reported stolen from the Kroger store in The Woodlands. Additional investigation revealed that another vehicle had just been burglarized while parked at the Kroger store in Conroe. Stolen property was located inside the recovered black Ford Explorer and Dennis Malachow was arrested with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Burglary of a Motor Vehicle.

On 10/24/08 Deputy Holcomb was dispatched to the 13,000 block of Anchor Court, in Willis, in reference to an Assault – Family Violence. On arrival, the complainant, a 24 year old female reported that 18 year old brother-in-law had apparently been sleeping and was awakened by a barking dog inside the house. The 18 year old male reportedly assaulted the female by striking her several times on the head with his closed fist. The complainant did exhibit abrasions and swelling to the side of her head. The 18 year old was located hiding in the bathroom of the residence. He was arrested and charged with Assault – Family Violence. This case referred to Justice Court for disposition.

District 2 – Lt. Andrew Eason (South County/Woodlands)
On 10/22/08 at approximately 1540 hours, Sgt. Herring arrived on the scene of a vehicle stop by Cpl. Russell. The driver (WM 52) had been driving the wrong way on Grogan’s Mill Road. During Sgt. Herring’s interview of the driver, Sgt. Herring noticed a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver and that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, he was unsteady on his feet, and he had slurred speech making understanding him difficult. Sgt. Herring conducted a Field Sobriety Test. Due to the intoxication level of the driver, EMS was contacted and the driver was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Case is being referred to District Attorney’s Office for charges.

On 10/23/08 at approximately 1650 hours, Dep. Gordy responded to a call regarding the possible sale of illegal narcotics. Dep. Gordy arrived in the area of Sleepy Hollow and Main St. and began looking for the suspects. A short time later, Dep. Gordy saw a subject meeting the description of whom they were looking for walking down the road and signaled him to stop. The subject immediately discarded an item from his pocket. After securing the subject (BM 28), Dep. Gordy located the item, identified as a blue, cylindrical tube used for smoking “crack cocaine.” A search of the subject’s clothing and person for weapons and/or other contraband resulting in Dep. Gordy finding a small piece of plastic with a green leafy substance, identified as marijuana. The subject was taken into custody for Possession of a Controlled Substance and transported to the Montgomery County Jail without incident.

On 10/25/08 at approximately 0138 hours, while patrolling in a Shopping Center on Research Forest Dr, Sgt. Jenkins noticed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. Upon approaching the vehicle, Sgt. Jenkins recognized the passenger as meeting the description of a possible gas station robbery suspect. As he approached the vehicle, the driver and passenger got back into the vehicle and drove off. Sgt. Jenkins then conducted a traffic stop and had the passenger exit the vehicle. After conducting his investigation and searching the vehicle, Sgt. Jenkins found a pill bottle containing several pills that field tested positive for a controlled substance. Sgt. Jenkins then took both the driver (WM 22) and the passenger (WM16) into custody for possession of Controlled Substance and transported them to the Montgomery County Jail and Juvenile Detention Facility. The passenger was also charged with Failure to Identify for giving false information regarding his age because he did not want to go to Juvenile Detention.

District 3 – Lt. Jim Fleming (East County)
On October 20, Deputy C. Curry was dispatched to the 23700 block of FM 1314 for a criminal mischief call. On arrival the Deputy observed a highly intoxicated male and female on location. The 19 year old male and 27 year old female, each from Porter, were arrested at 12:02am and taken to jail.

On October 20, Deputy S. Ortiz stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 23800 block of Briar Berry Lane. The Deputy noticed an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The female driver gave consent to search the vehicle and the Deputy located marijuana in the center console. The 21 year old female from New Caney was arrested at 1:54am and transported to jail.

On October 20, Deputy S. Ortiz was advised by a citizen about a person who appeared to be intoxicated walking down the road in the 21000 block of Punkin Street. The Deputy located the female who stated she was trying to catch her dog. The female became belligerent with the Deputy. The 39 year old female from Houston was arrested at 9:14pm and transported to jail.

On October 23, Deputy C. Murray was notified of a disturbance in the 25200 block of Bates Road. The Deputy located the disturbance which was between three males who had been arguing and later became a physical altercation. One of the males was extremely intoxicated. The 32 year old male from Splendora was arrested at 12:11am and transported to jail.

On October 23, Deputy C. Murray responded to the 22800 block of Ford Road in reference to a motor vehicle accident. On arrival the Deputy met with a witness who stated a male had run from the scene. The Deputy made contact with the owner of the vehicle who stated his vehicle had been stolen. The witness identified the owner as the one who ran from the scene. During the investigation the Deputy determined the owner of the vehicle had made a false report to a peace officer. The 27 year old male from Porter was arrested at 4:41am and transported to jail.

On October 25, Deputy C. Evans was sent to the 24000 block of Hwy 59 in reference to a motor vehicle accident. During the ensuing investigation the driver of the vehicle was found to be driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The male became very belligerent toward EMS personnel. The 22 year old male from Hockley was arrested at 2:28am, charged with DWI, and transported to jail.

On October 26, Deputy J. Amstutz was dispatched to the 27100 block of Greenberry Drive in reference to a suspicious male who had been seen in the area the previous night carrying a firearm. The Deputy located the male as described by a witness and detained him. The male was found to be in possession of a Glock 9mm pistol which he was carrying in his waist band. The 22 year old male from Kingwood was arrested at 2:09pm and transported to jail.

On October 26, Deputy K. Koonce was notified of a family violence assault call in the 25200 block of Blue Jay. The Deputy met with a female complainant who stated she and her son got into a verbal argument and he grabbed her by the throat and choked her. He struck her on the face with his hand and struck her in the abdominal area with his knee. The 18 year old male from Porter was arrested at 4:19pm and transported to jail.

On October 26, Deputy C. Curry responded to the 20100 block of Squire Road for a welfare concern. A male was being very belligerent to EMS personnel that were on scene. On arrival the Deputy observed an intoxicated male. The 30 year old male from Splendora was arrested at 1:10am and transported to jail.

Warrants served:
A 41 year old female from Conroe was arrested at 6:10pm, October 20, in the 21100 block of Hwy 59 by Deputy G. Harman for a possession of a controlled substance warrant out of Montgomery County. The Deputy had received prior information on the female’s location. The female was taken to jail.

A 21 year old female from Cleveland was arrested at 8:44am, October 22, in the 8900 block of Greenwood Drive by Deputy D. Rippley for two theft by check warrants, one out of Montgomery County and one out of Liberty County. The Deputy was investigating a lost child call. The female was transported to jail.

A 44 year old male from Conroe was arrested at 3:24pm, October 22, in the 17500 block of Hunters Trail by Deputy J. Chapa, assisted by two other Deputies, for a pardon and parole warrant out of TDCJ, a civil contempt child support failure to appear warrant and a capias on indictment warrant, both out of Montgomery County. The Deputy was aware of the male’s location. The male was transported to jail.

A 32 year old male from Point Blank was arrested at 3:05am, October 24, in the area of Loop 494 and North Park Drive by Deputy C. Murray for a DWLI warrant out of Van Zandt County. The Deputy was investigating a suspicious vehicle. The male was transported to jail.

A 33 year old male from Porter was arrested at 9:24am, October 24, in the 21300 block of West Knox Drive by Deputy J. Armstrong for eight (8) warrants out of JP4 Montgomery County. The Deputy also arrested a 30 year old male from Porter who was also on scene for two motion to revoke warrants and a theft warrant out of Montgomery County and four (4) warrants out of JP4 Montgomery County. The Deputy was investigating an abandoned vehicle call. Both males were taken to jail.

District 4 – Lt. Art Galloway (West County)
On 10/22/08 Deputy K. Williams was dispatched to Squirrel Oaks Dr for a welfare check. Upon his arrival Deputy Williams spoke with a child who was alone at this location with his 2 yr old brother. The officer checked on the two children, then went to speak with the parents who were drinking at a neighbor’s home. The father became aggressive with the officer and, refusing to co-operate, he went into his house and slammed the door shut. He then proceeded to call MCSO dispatch and make threats. After a short while he came out of the house and Deputy Williams took him into custody and transported him to county jail in Conroe. This case referred to CID-detectives.

On 10/22/08 Deputy A. Gonzalez obtained information on the theft of a 5 ton air conditioning unit from M&M Grocery Store. The complainant stated the unit was on the side of the building and the lines were cut and the whole unit taken. The estimated value of the A/C unit is $5,000. This case referred to CID-detectives.

On 10/25/08 Deputy G. Kerr was dispatched to Crestwater in reference to burglary of a vehicle. The complainant stated someone had stolen an I-Pod and a radar detector from inside the cab of his 2006 Dodge truck that he had parked in the drive-way, leaving the driver’s door unlocked. The cost to replace the I-Pod MP-3 is $200 and cost to replace Cobra radar detector is $100. This case referred to CID-detectives.

On 10/26/08 Cpl. F. Webb, while on patrol in Lake Windcrest, was flagged down in reference to burglary of a vehicle. She spoke with the complainant who stated he had parked his truck in the circle driveway closest to the garage. He thought he locked the truck, but several items had been stolen from it including a wallet, GPS, Cell phone, miscellaneous paperwork, credit/debit cards. Total loss estimated at $624. This case referred to CID-detectives.

On 10/26/08 Deputy Ormond and his partner Cpl. Sumrall observed a passenger car passing 3 cars in a no passing zone on FM 1774. Upon observing the traffic violation they initiated a traffic stop. They approached the vehicle, made contact with the driver, whom they observed to have slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. The driver was asked to perform various field sobriety tests which he failed. He was then placed into custody and transported to county jail in Conroe. Case referred to CID-detectives. This case referred to CID-detectives.

On 10/27/08 Deputy K. Krolczyk spoke with a complainant who came to the D4 patrol office to report the burglary of a vehicle. The burglary had occurred at the house of a friend on 10/24/08. His wallet had been stolen (containing cash and miscellaneous papers). Total dollar loss reported at $166. Case referred to CID-detectives.

On 10/27/08 Sgt. W. Hammons was dispatched to FM 1488 @ Zipps #5 for an aggravated robbery call. Upon his arrival he met with the complainant who stated when she was counting cigarettes and getting ready to close the store a male dressed in black entered the store. The man had a pistol and waved the gun at her and told her to give him all the money. He then ran out of the store and she hit the silent alarm. This case referred to CID-Major Case Squad.

District 5 – Lt. Don Lacy (Northwest County)
On 10-20-08 Deputy Farmer responded to the 11500 block of Amberwood Dr. in reference to a criminal mischief and theft call. A prior tenant was listed as a suspect in damaging the home and stealing the A/C unit. The report was sent to Detectives for follow up.

On 10-23-08 Deputy Lowe responded to an abandoned car that was on fire in the 2400 block of Foxridge Dr. Deputy Lowe could not locate a plate or a VIN on the vehicle. He wrote up an Inv. Of Arson case and forwarded it to A.T.T. F. for follow-up.

On 10-21-08 Deputy Favorat was investigating an assault call in the 1600 block of Sapp Rd. when one of the actors gave him several false names. Deputy Favorat was able to correctly identify the female and she was arrested for failure to Identify.

On 10-24-08 Cpl. Wilkins responded to a family violence call in the 100 block of Arapahoe. During the investigation a suspect was identified and arrested for Assault (Family Violence).

On 10-25-08 Deputy Howze responded to the 3900 block of Treasure Island in reference to a family violence call. During the investigation the male actor was caught and arrested for Assault (Family violence), Resisting arrest and interference with a 911 call.

On 10-25-08 Deputy Howze responded to a burglary of a habitation call in the 500 block of St. Lawrence River Rd. A suspect was identified in the burglary where a gun and a laptop computer were stolen. The case was forwarded to Detectives for follow up.

District 6 – Lt. David Dottei (Town Center)
On 10/19/08 at approximately 1849 hours, Dep. Weatherford was dispatched to a business at 1201 Lake Woodlands in reference to a shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival he met with the Loss Prevention Officer (LPO). The LPO stated that on this date, they observed the subject (WF 21) enter the store and begin selecting several items and then entering the fitting room. The subject has a large shopping bag with her when she entered the fitting room. When she exited a short time later, she did not have any of the previously selected items in her hands. The fitting room was checked by LPOs and none of the merchandise was located. The subject passed several points of purchase without attempted to pay for the concealed merchandise and exited the store where she was then stopped by Loss Prevention officers and escorted back into the store and processed for theft. The recovered merchandise was valued at $139.90. The subject was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail without further incident.

On 10/20/08 at approximately 1437 hours, Dep. Varnell was dispatched to a business at 1201 Lake Woodlands in reference to a shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival he met with the Loss Prevention Officer (LPO). The LPO stated that they observed the subject (WF 25) pushing a baby stroller, begin selecting several items and enter the fitting room with the stroller. When she exited the fitting room later, she had some of the items hanging on the stroller, which she placed on a rack. The subject then passed several points of purchase without attempted to pay for the items concealed in her purse and stroller, and exited the store where she was then stopped by Loss Prevention officers and escorted back into the store and processed for theft. The recovered merchandise was valued at $191. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail without further incident.

On 10/20/08 at approximately 1848 hours, Dep. Parks was dispatched to a business at 3040 College Park Dr. in reference to a shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival he met with the Loss Prevention Officer (LPO). The LPO stated that on this date, he observed the subject (WF 25) enter the hardware department holding a blue diaper bag and select 4 Stanley hand tools from the sale rack. She then went to the infant’s department. While there, she opened the diaper bag and placed the hand tools inside. The suspect passed all points of purchase without attempting to pay for the concealed merchandise and exited the store where she was then stopped by Loss Prevention officers and escorted back into the store and processed for theft. The recovered merchandise was valued at $108.90. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail without further incident.

On 10/23/08 at approximately 1710 hours, Dep. Birch was dispatched to a business at 1201 Lake Woodlands in reference to a shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival he met with the Loss Prevention Officer (LPO). The LPO stated that on this date, they observed the subject (WF 27) enter the store and begin selecting several items and then entering the fitting room. When she exited a short time later, she only had one of the previously selected items in her hands. The fitting room was checked by LPOs and none of the merchandise was located, only empty hangers. The subject passed several points of purchase without attempted to pay for the concealed merchandise and exited the store where she was then stopped by Loss Prevention officers and escorted back into the store and processed for theft. The recovered merchandise was valued at $181. The subject was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail without further incident.
