Five Dead in High-Speed Vehicle Accident

Magnolia, Texas (Montgomery County Monitor) – At approximately 11:45 a.m. Saturday morning, a two car motor vehicle accident occurred on the northbound lanes of SH 249 at Patridge Circle, between Decker Prairie and Pinehurst. Initial 9-1-1 calls from witnesses indicated multiple ejections with entrapment and a vehicle fire.

Firefighters from both Magnolia and Tomball responded to the scene along with Montgomery County Hospital District, Precinct 5 Constables, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and Texas Department of Public Safety.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed one vehicle (minivan) was fully involved and another sustained heavy damage (Cobalt).

The driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt, Brandon Ferguson, a 22 year-old male from Magnolia was flown to Houston via air ambulance. His passenger, an 18 year-old female, Kayla Pratorius of Magnolia did not survive the collision.

Both Kay Sexton, 59, from College Station, Texas and Catherine Edwards, 83, of Salina, Oklahoma were ejected from the minivan. They were transported by ground to local hospitals. Edwards succumbed to her injuries after transport to the hospital.

Witnesses attempted to remove the remaining occupants of the van but the fire quickly made that task impossible.

The remaining three occupants of the minivan died on-scene. They were, Curtis Edwards, 78, of Pinehurst, Texas, Lloyd Edwards, 83, of Salina, Oklahoma and Donald Sexton, 60, of College Station.

While DPS is still investigating the cause of the crash, it appears the Cobalt was traveling at a high rate of speed, possibly in excess of 100 MPH.

The minivan attempted to cross SH 249 when it was struck broadside by the Cobalt.

Harold Hill, a nearby resident, claims the slight rise in the road before this intersection limits visibility for those trying to cross SH 249.

This accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
