2-Alarm Fire Damages Apartment Storage Area

Shenandoah, Texas (Montgomery County Monitor) – At approximately 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, Needham Volunteer Fire Department and others responded to a fire call at the Park at Woodmoor apartment complex located in the 8700 block of Shenandoah Park Drive.

Once on scene, personnel reported multiple storage/garage units were involved.

A second alarm was called bringing in additional units from area fire departments.

Radio traffic indicated minor explosions inside the structure.

The fire was quickly knocked down and brought under control.

According to City of Shenandoah Fire Marshal Jim Miles, the fire started in an overheated air-conditioning window unit located in the north end of the structure. The fire, fueled by many combustible items, including unsecured spray paint cans, then made its way into the attic area.

It ran the length of the common attic only stopping once it hit a firewall.

Although the fire was extinguished before reaching vehicles stored in the southern end of the structure, items located in this area did suffer smoke damage.

While the investigation is still on-going, Miles estimates damage from the fire could reach $200,000 – $300,000.

Referring to the firefighters on-scene, Miles stated, “They did a great job getting the fire out as quickly as they did.”

No injuries were reported.

Agencies noted on-scene included: Needham Volunteer Fire Department, South Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department, Woodlands Fire Department, River Plantation Volunteer Fire Department, Bennette Estates Volunteer Fire Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Shenandoah Police Department and Oak Ridge Police Department.
