Shenandoah PD Press Release – Park at Woodmoor Apt Fire

An accidental fire at The Parks at Woodmoore Apartments, 8787 Shenandoah Park Dr., located in the City of Shenandoah, occurred at approximately 8:00 PM, April 23, 2009 and caused over $200,000 in damage.

At approximately 8:00 PM, fire units from the Needham Fire Department and The Woodlands Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the parking garage and storage facility at The Parks at Woodmoore Apartments. The 8,000 square feet structure is a one story wood frame building and is used by residents of the complex for storing vehicles and personal items. Fire Investigators from both the City of Shenandoah and the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. Fast action by both Needham and the Woodlands Fire Departments resulted in a quick extinguishment of the fire resulting in the preservation of a large amount of the occupant’s property that was stored in the building.

According to the City of Shenandoah Fire Marshal Jim Miles, the fire originated from a window mounted air conditioner unit in a storage facility and was determined to be accidental. The building and its contents sustained heavy fire and smoke damage throughout the structure as did the apartment building on the north side of the storage building. A strong wind during the fire caused the smoke to engulf the apartment building to the north resulting in a large number of the apartment units to sustain smoke damage as well.

There were no reported injuries to occupants of the complex or firefighters. The damage is estimated being over $200,000.
