Woman Killed in Head-On Collision

Spring, Texas (Montgomery County Monitor) - Around midnight on Friday, a Chevrolet Blazer traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 45, slammed into a Toyota Avalon just south of Rayford Road.  The passenger in the Avalon, Jan Bennett of Huntsville, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her husband, Robert Bennett, the driver of the Avalon, was transported to Memorial Hermann, The Woodlands, with at least one broken bone.

The driver of the Blazer, Bulmaro Santos, age 22, was also transported to Memorial Hermann, The Woodlands.

Sgt. Terry Barnhill with the Texas Department of Public Safety said, “[Santos] had signs of intoxication, a mandatory blood draw was taken from him at the hospital.  He was then charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.”

All northbound lanes of Interstate 45 were closed for more than 5 hours while the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office investigated the scene.   All lanes of traffic reopened at approximately 5:30 a.m.
