Texas Highway Patrol investigators are seeking information about the driver in a hit-and-run crash on December 16 that killed a 55-year-old Cypress man.
The crash occurred at 6:57 p.m. Wednesday night on SH 249, four miles south of Magnolia.
Troopers believe that Dana Burkett was racing his 2005 Chevrolet Corvette against another vehicle, possibly a light-colored, newer-model, racing-style Ford Mustang or Dodge Charger, possibly with hood pins. Witnesses told troopers that the vehicle was yellow or orange.
The Corvette went partially off the roadway, striking a curb and causing Burkett to lose control of his vehicle. The Corvette overturned, striking a pole and ejecting Burkett from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred. The second vehicle fled the scene.
The second vehicle likely has some noticeable damage, including a broken window and heavy scraping to the rims and undercarriage.
Anyone with information about the wreck, the location of the vehicle or who might have been driving it is urged to call DPS at 1-800-525-5555.

A vehicle matching the description has been seen in and around the Magnolia/Tomball/Pinehurst area traveling at a high rate of speed on several different occasions. The problem is that many people know of him, but don’t know his name. The vehicle involved in my Father’s accident has been described as a yellow mustang, late model. This car will not necessarily have visible damage that you can see in passing, but since the vehicle DID also leave the road, it will have under carriage damage. We understand that this coward stopped in the road, by my Father’s body, and then proceeded to leave the scene. We are pleading with the public for your help!! Someone knows this person’s name. Maybe a neighbor, co-worker, or even someone that has worked on this vehicle in the past. Please call 800-525-5555 with an anonymous tip.
Please help us find this person. This has been posted by the family of Dana Burkett
