Woodlands Robbery Leads to Pursuit and Suspect Capture

The Woodlands, Texas (Montgomery County Monitor) – Sometime after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a theft at the Nutrition Depot located on Ashlane Way in The Woodlands, Texas.

According to Captain Andrew Eason with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived on scene and attempted to place the suspect into custody.  The suspect resisted the deputies and the struggle progressed into the parking lot.  Once outside the business, deputies deployed a Taser in order to subdue the suspect.

Eason said, “He was tased, he was able to break through that…[he] got into his vehicle and hit one of our patrol cars and a citizen’s vehicle in the parking lot.”

While still in the parking lot, a deputy discharged his weapon at the vehicle.

The suspect fled the scene and deputies gave chase.  The pursuit progressed Northeast through The Woodlands.  Law enforcement personnel successfully deployed spike strips on Lake Woodlands, near Cochran’s Crossing Drive, puncturing one of the fleeing vehicle’s tires.

Soon thereafter, the suspect turned onto Golden Shadow Circle and pulled into a residence.  The suspect fled the vehicle and barricaded himself inside the home.

Eason said, “Deputies made forced entry and encountered him at the top of the stairs… the suspect was wielding a barbell, threatening the deputies.”  Deputies responded by tasing the suspect a second time and placed the suspect into custody.

The suspect, 24 year-old Todd Abercrombie of The Woodlands,  is currently charged with robbery, aggravated assault against a peace officer, evading and DWI.

One deputy was transported to the hospital with minor injuries to the leg and arm which were sustained in the original confrontation with the suspect.
