MCFMO Press Release – Intentionally Set Fire – West Creek

Montgomery County, Tx February 4th, 2010:

firelogo_1Firefighters from the Lake Conroe and Montgomery Fire Departments were dispatched to a house fire on West Creek Drive off Blake Road just before 12:30 AM on February 1st. Two Engines, a Ladder and a Tanker from LCFD arrived within minutes, but the mobile home was already fully involved in fire when it was reported to 911. They were joined 5 minutes later by an additional LCFD Engine and a Tanker from the Montgomery Fire Department.

Initial callers reported to 911 that the home across the street from theirs was heavily involved in fire, and that the neighbor’s car was in the driveway. Firefighters found a badly burned body in the home after they brought the fire under control and immediately called in Investigators from the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Arson Investigators from the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office began an investigation as soon as firefighters extinguished the fire. MCFMO Arson Investigators are Police Officers who specialize in the investigation of fires and explosions and are responsible for investigating all structure fires in unincorporated Montgomery County.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the victim’s death was a homicide and that the fire was intentionally set. MCFMO Investigators immediately requested assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

MCFMO and MCSO personnel are currently conducting a joint investigation into this incident. In these types of joint investigations, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will be the lead agency and all further media inquiry should be directed to MCSO.
