MCFMO Press Release – Two Injured in Fire

Two Adults Critically Burned In Early Morning Wills Area House Fire

Injured couple flown via helicopter, One to Herman Hospital and one UTMB-Galveston

firelogo_1An early morning house fire in Arrowhead Subdivision, north of Willis, critically burned the two occupants. North Montgomery County Fire Department arrived on scene to find a wood frame home heavily engulfed in flames. The two occupants were already out of the house when fire fighters arrived, possibly with the help of neighbors. The male occupant, age 44, sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns over approximately 32% of his body and was flown to Herman Hospital in Houston. The female occupant, age 62, sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns over approximately 30 to 40% of her body and was flown to the burn center at UTMB in Galveston. It is not uncommon for burn patients from the same incident to be flown to different hospitals, depending on the availability of beds in the burn units. Both patients are listed in critical but stable condition. Early reports are that the woman awoke to discover the home on fire and alerted the male occupant.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. It is not known if the home had working smoke detectors.

New Waverly Fire Department and Montgomery Fire Department assisted in this fire as well.

This brings the total fire injuries to 18 so far this year in Montgomery County, as compared to 16 injuries for all of 2009.
