Last night at approximately 8:15 PM the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was called to a robbery in progress at a convenience store at 24551 Loop 494 in the Porter area. Deputies learned that the suspect had fired shots in the store. As sheriff deputies converged to the scene they learned that Houston Police officers were involved in a vehicle chase with the suspect in the robbery.
The chase ended when the suspect lost control of his vehicle and struck an advertising sign pole on FM 1314 at Old Sorters Road. Houston Police officers fired several shots at the suspect when they saw he had a gun.
The suspect was struck in the arm and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston with a non-life threatening injury.
It is believed that the suspect could be responsible for two other armed robberies that occurred in the same area during a short time period.
Arrested: Mendez, Moises Roman Hispanic Male 10-17-1981
Charged with: Aggravated Robbery, Felony Evading, and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer – Other charges could be pending as the investigation continues.
As of this press release Mendez remains hospitalized and will be transferred to the Montgomery County Jail when he is released.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes investigators are working cooperatively with the Houston Police investigators and the Texas Rangers to complete the investigation.
