MAJOR INCIDENTS 03-21-10
Conroe Police Officers and Investigators responded to the following major incidents on 03-21-10:
Disturbance in Progress 1000 block Bertrand, approximately 5:30 am
Officers responded to multiple calls regarding a disturbance in progress involving a male suspect who was trying to enter a residence. The suspect had allegedly broken windows, caused damage to screen doors, and threatened the resident. As officers arrived, the resident advised officers the subject was in the back yard. Officers attempted to detain the subject and a struggle ensued. The subject assaulted the officers with his fists during the struggle. One officer deployed his Taser to subdue the suspect. The Taser had little effect on the suspect. A short burst of OC spray to the suspect caused the suspect to comply. After the scene was secured by officers, an illegal, short barreled shotgun was found in the driveway to the residence. The suspect was identified as Eric Gustafson, 11-20-83. Gustafson was transported to the Montgomery County Jail with charges of two counts of Assault on a Public Servant, Felony Third Degree.
Stolen Vehicle and Pursuit 100 block N. First Street, approximately 7:00 pm
A patrol officer observed a grey 2006 Chevrolet pickup disregard a red light in the 100 block of N. First at West Davis Street. Through a computer check, the officer learned the license plates on the vehicle had been reported stolen. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle refused to stop. Officers engaged in a pursuit which covered approximately 20 miles and lasted 18 minutes. The fleeing suspect ended his run from law enforcement when he struck a silver 2006 Dodge pickup at the intersection of East Phillips Street and North Second Street. The suspect, later identified as James Michael Peluso, 06-02-73, fled from the scene on foot and was subsequently arrested after a short struggle. The driver of the Dodge pickup was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene. The passenger of the Dodge pickup was transported to Conroe Regional Medical Center by ambulance and was treated and released. Peluso was transported to the Montgomery County Jail on charges of Evading in a Motor Vehicle, Felony Third Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Third Degree, and Failure to Stop and Render Aid, Felony Third Degree.
Accidental Shooting 1200 block Wilson Road, approximately 9:00 pm
Officers responded to a reported accidental shooting. Officers learned that the shooter was apparently showing his .45 caliber lever action rifle to his girlfriend when the weapon discharged. The bullet struck and penetrated the floor of the apartment and entered the bedroom of the apartment below. The bullet struck the occupant of the apartment below causing a serious but non-life threatening injury. The victim was transported by ambulance to Hermann Hospital Woodlands for treatment. No charges were filed, however, the investigation is ongoing.
