On 03-22-2010 at approximately 11:55 pm, Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Pct 4 Constables and Troopers from the Department of Public Safety responded to the Porter Sports Bar and Grill located in the 23000 Block of Loop 494 in Porter in reference to a shooting call. Upon arrival, Deputies learned that there had been a fight in the bar between four men and had continued out into the parking lot. One of the men retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and began firing the weapon. One person was struck in the hand by the shooter. It was learned that there were approximately 30 patrons inside the bar at the time of the incident. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene as well as Crime Scene Investigators. It was determined that two of the males were the primary aggressors in the disturbance that led to the shooting.
Mathew Robert Knowles W/M DOB 06-02-1983 was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Bond has been set at $60,000.00.
A weapon was recovered at the scene as well as numerous shell casings from the parking lot.
The second suspect was located at a nearby apartment complex and had to be transported to Conroe E.R. for injuries sustained during the initial fight.
The shooting victim was treated at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands for a gun shot wound to the palm and later released.
