MCFMO Press Release – Woodlands Optometrist Killed in Early Morning Fire

Early morning Lake Conroe area house fire claims the life of local Woodlands Optometrist

Doctor Bernard “Bernie” Maslovitz perished in an early morning fire at his Willis area home.

On Friday, April 23, 2010, an early morning house fire claimed the life of a popular local Optometrist and seriously injured his wife. Fire Fighters from the North Montgomery County Fire Department responded to the house fire at 13542 North Lee Shore Drive, in Shadow Bay subdivision on Lake Conroe, around 0130 am Friday morning. One of the occupants of the home, Avis Maslovitz, was able to escape the burning home; her husband, Optometrist Bernard “Bernie” Maslovitz, was not able to escape the burning home and perished in the fire.

A team of Investigators from the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene early on and spent the morning examining the burned home for clues as to the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation at this time.

Doctor Bernie Maslovitz, age 57, has been an Optometrist at JC Penny Optical in The Woodlands Mall for several years. His wife Avis Maslovitz works at Conroe Regional Medical Center, where she is recovering from her injuries. Ms. Maslovitz, suffering from smoke inhalation,  is expected to have a full recovery.

  1. Darshan Tolat MD Chief-of Staff CRMC says:

The physicians and staff at CRMC are in shock and deeply affected by the fire that injured are hospital dietician and ended the life of her beloved husband. Our daily thoughts and prayers are with Avis and her family, and we grieve for the loss of her soulmate. We all knew of the amazing marriage that Avis and Bernie had and even used their example to inspire our relationships. I personally want to tell Avis that her pain will be shared by us and that we all know that love is the greatest force in the universe and her beloved husband will watch over her and us.
