Pct 1 Constable Press Release – Lake Conroe Drowning

On May 23, 2010, Deputies from Constable Don Chumley’s Marine Division, The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department , The Montgomery Fire Department and The Montgomery County Hospital District responded to the 17000 block of Harbor Drive in response to a 911 Medical Call for a Welfare check on a Possible Drowning. (Time 10:20am)

Upon arrival the units found that a 2 year old male child had fallen into Lake Conroe in the area behind a residential home in the 17000 block of Harbor Drive.

The child’s mother reports that they had arrived in town from Kansas City, Missouri in the early morning hours and both she and the child had gone to sleep on the living room couch. At approximately 6:30am the mother reports she was awaken by the sleeping child’s movements and moved from the couch to the recliner and were she returned to sleep.

The grandfather stated that at approximately 9:55am he awoke and began his normal routines before coming downstairs at which time he noticed his daughter sleeping in the recliner and the child was not present on the couch. He stated that it was at this time that he woke up the household and began to search for the child first inside the home and then into the outer- yard.

Upon entry into the backyard yard and observing the child not to be present he reports that he and the family moved to the bulk headed area adjacent to his boat dock. It was at this time that he observed the child face down in the lake.

He states that he jumped in and pulled the child from the water and immediately began CPR, calling 911.

Medical units were able to transport the child to the Conroe Regional Hospital, where the Doctors and Nurses in the emergency room stabilized the child and transported him by PHI Helicopter (Life flight) to the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas for further medical care.

It is unknown at what time the child had exited the home and fallen into the lake, but it appears the child may have exited the home through a “Doggie Door” as the remaining exits from the home were secured by locking doors and windows.
