DPS Press Release – MVA Policy Change

DPS suspends investigation of property damage crashes in Montgomery County parking lots

Effective July 1, the Texas Department of Public Safety will suspend the practice of investigating minor vehicle crashes in parking lots to better focus on the high volume of vehicle crashes that occur on public roadways.

Operators involved in minor non-injury vehicle crashes in parking lots in Montgomery County shall report that accident to the Texas Department of Transportation no later than the 10th day after the date of the accident by use of a self-reporting form known as a CR-2.  A parking lot may be defined as either a private access way or parking area provided for a client or patron by a business or all government-owned property where public parking is permitted.

Persons in Montgomery County involved in minor vehicle crashes that occur in parking lots may obtain a crash report form (CR-2/Blue Form) from any local law enforcement agency or the Texas Department of Transportation at http://www.dot.state.tx.us.

  1. concerned citizen says:

Nice for the troopers, heard the Sheriff’s Office isnt going to work the crashes either. Man the woodlands folks should be upset that there dues are going to a contract with the Sheriff’s Office and they still refuse to work wrecks, and its not Tommy’s fault, just his fault for letting it happen and letting McDaniel run his department. OUT with McDaniel.

  2. Foz says:

The Sheriff’s Office changed their policy regarding MVA’s in the Fall of 2006.

We let Woodlands leaders know about this change as they were in deliberations about giving the LE contract to the Sheriff…..the leaders did not seem interested in the Sheriff’s change in policy.
