EAST MONTGOMERY COUNTY – A routine traffic stop in the 25000 block of the Hwy 59 southbound service road Thursday night resulted in the arrest of a Porter man on multiple drug charges.
Lt. Mark Seals with the Pct. 4 Constable’s Office was on patrol when he witnessed a traffic violation and initiated a traffic stop on a 1997 Ford Explorer. While talking with the driver, Lt. Seals smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver denied having any illegal drugs or contraband inside the vehicle. The driver gave his consent for Lt. Seals to search the vehicle and Lt. Seals found a metal box containing clear bags filled with marijuana.

The driver, 45-year-old Marc David Cohen initially denied ownership of the marijuana, but later recanted and also admitted he had cocaine and Xanax on his person. Lt. Seals subsequently found Soma pills and dozens of other pills that field tested positive for the designer street drug known as Ecstasy.
Cohen is charged with second-degree felony Possession of a Controlled Substance; third-degree felony Possession of a Controlled Substance; and state jail felony Possession of Marijuana.
Pct. 4 Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden said the arrest was another example of how alert and dedicated deputies are taking drugs off the streets of Precinct 4 on a daily basis.
“I’m proud of the amount of drugs and weapons we’ve confiscated and the number of fugitives we’ve arrested, not just through investigations and warrant roundups, but also through traffic stops like this one,” Constable Hayden said. “It shows what can be accomplished when the deputies care about the community and take pride in their work.”
