On, Saturday August 7, 2010 the Pct. 1 Marine Division was notified of a possible drowning by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch. Dispatch advised we had a missing person who had jumped from a pontoon boat. Several Lake Units, Fire Department and EMS were also en route to search the area.
Our Lake units quickly located the reportee who was approximately 1/4 to 1/2 mile north of the dam in the main lake area. A marker buoy was sat and grid searches of the area began. The witnesses were escorted to the Pct. 1 Marine Division Office for further investigation.
The missing male is identified as Gerald Norman Ellison Jr. B/M DOB 08-06-1967 from Houston, Texas.
We were able to determine Mr. Ellison and 5 friends rented a pontoon boat at 10:05am, boarded the boat drove out into the main lake ¼ to ½ mile north of the dam where Mr. Ellison and another male decided to swim. After approximately five minutes of swimming the group realized wind was pushing the boat away. Both swimmers started to swim to the boat, Mr. Ellison yelled out he needed help, his girlfriend retrieved a life jacket for him as the first male reached the boat. At that same time Mr. Ellison went underwater and never came up. The friends tried to locate him and one of the boat occupants called 911.
The Pct. 1 Marine Division and Dive Team will continue to search the area until Mr. Ellison can be recovered.
