TLTR Fire Fighters pull 74 year old retired nurse from burning house

Fire fighters from the Timber lakes/Timber Ridge Fire Department, The Woodlands Fire Department and South Montgomery County Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 25615 Glen Loch Tuesday evening approximately 7:00 pm.  When fire fighters arrived on scene, a couple of minutes after the initial alarm, the attached garage was fully engulfed in flames. Fire fighters entered the burning house and located the victim, 74 year old  female, Nancy Larence. Life Flight helicopter was called to the scene and Ms. Larence was flown to the Burn Center at Herman Hospital in Houston, where she remains in critical but stable condition with serious burn and smoke inhalation injuries.

Friends and neighbors told investigators that Ms. Larence recently retired as a nurse in The Woodlands. She lived in the house alone with her dog and cat, both of whom perished in the fire. There were no smoke detectors in the house. “It appears that this fire started in the attached garage. This is a good example of where working smoke detectors in the house would have given the victim an early warning of the fire, allowing her to escape before injury. It is so very important to make sure that you have working smoke detectors in your home”, says Scott Burlin, Assistant Fire Marshal.

The cause for the fire is under investigation by the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office.  The home, built in the mid 1960’s, is most likely a total loss due to fire, smoke and heat damage.
