Sadler Ethical Breach? Judge Touts Business Partners’ $8.5 Mil Contract To Conroe Council

As a matter fact, a series of public records help connect the dots that prove Sadler’s “private” involvement in Angel/McIver business entities since at least August of 2006 and NOTE when you click on the documents to look for pages 12 and 14 (the proof that one of Sadler’s businesses, St. James Trading, Inc.  has recently changed its’ business address with the Texas Comptroller and is now using a UPS Store mail-drop service address as its’ own.  Sounds so ABOVE BOARD doesn’t it?

Readers should also know that Sadler, as County Judge, is required to file Conflicts Disclosure forms for any entities doing business before the Commissioner’s Court that he may have a personal or private ”interest” in.

Well, Sadler has posted only one required Conflicts “Disclosure” in late 2006 on the county’s website and if readers will click here they will notice that, as of publishing time, there has been NO updated disclosures posted by Sadler since the Angel/McIver Interests, LP one was posted there.

This very same 2006 disclosure with its’ all-too-carefully worded explanation of Sadler’s seemingly incestuous relationship with the two businessmen reads more like a modern-day fairy tale with Sadler alleging that he is only a sometime “consultant” for Angel/McIver Interests while he carefully failed to disclose that beginning in August of the same year (2006) he began listing himself as an officer/partner in “multiple” OTHER Angel/McIver business entities

I would hope that Sadler’s “failure to disclose” the true nature and extent of his personal involvement with Angel and McIver would be looked into by the appropriate enforcement agencies.

Though the judge is campaigning on his “twenty year record” he has shown little interest in honestly setting  his “hidden” twenty year record straight with the voters.  A “hidden” record of personal self-enrichment (all too often at taxpayer expense) that he is busy trying to  keep buried as he seeks a record sixth term as county judge.

Additionally, as far as I have been able to ascertain, Angel/McIver has NEVER posted on the county website the Conflicts “Disclosure” form required of a Vendor that has potential business conflicts with the county.

Readers need to realize that three years after posting his single 2006 disclosure, over on the county’s website, Sadler filled out (in his own handwriting) another required form, his 2009 Personal Financial Statement  that indicates he was STILL “employed by” and paid income from Angel/McIver Interests, LP during the period ending December 31, 2008.

Not only did Sadler apparently not divulge his personal business dealings with Angel and McIver to the council before urging them to bestow the $8.5 million contract upon his cronies’ firm, but he also was quoted as shamelessly claiming Angel/McIver territory in North County (and implicitly the two roads in the contract) are  “a key component to the growth in that area”.  He also reportedly told the council that North Conroe and North MoCo represents a corridor that has more potential than any other part of the county.

Are we surprised?   He and his pals have been passing that very land around for the last two decades to assure it’s “potential”.

Did anyone but me realize that Roden’s article included the fact that David Angel was also at that council meeting to “tout” the same contract.  And isn’t it amazing that the Judge and Mr. Angel just happened to each bring up different “talking points” ?  You don’t think they put their heads together before going into that meeting, do you?  Naw, it was probably just a coincidence that they each have an interest in that little contract and both decided to just head over to the council to convince them to vote yes on the same $8.5 million dollar contract, don’t you think?

Many people don’t know that Angel/McIver Interests, LP purchased the huge parcel of vacant land that was AstroWorld’s site along the South Loop at Kirby in Houston for $77 million in 2006 and just sold the entire 104 undeveloped acres on May 21, 2010 to a Fort Worth company named the Mallick Group. No price was divulged.  And I have thus far been unable to track any proceeds of either sale directly to Sadler.

According to a follow up story on August 12th by Roden,  Sadler’s personally delivered power-punch “endorsement”  fell on deaf ears and the Angel/McIver contract was defeated thanks to a 4 – 1 Council vote against the contract.  Guess Sadler has something to worry about this November, no?

Anyway, after the contract issue failed, sycophant Mayor, Web Melder, expressed concern for the impact on Conroe’s “reputation”.

Is he for real? It looks to me like he’s only concerned with the impact on “his” reputation (with his buddy Sadler, that is).

I am thrilled to see that Candidate Sadler has handed his opponent this potentially big “issue” that could end up costing Sadler dearly at the polls. An issue that could also potentially sway voters to mark their ballot for Independent candidate, Adrian Heath, Sadler’s first November opponent since becoming County Judge twenty years ago.

Whatever could our County Judge have been thinking…..to so blatantly go out of his way in his attempt at manipulating an $8.5 million dollar “yes vote”  for his own partner’s benefit  while surely knowing the current environment of taxpayer anger building against government overspending especially during the last few weeks leading up to November’s election?

Let me guess what his thinking was……it’s just possible that right before stepping up to speak to the city council Sadler was thinking,….”let me put more taxpayer millions in my partner’s pockets so my share can be distributed back to me through one or more of our “hidden” partnerships”.   Just saying!

As a taxpayer and voter I applaud the four council members who cast their vote against the A/M contract. This appears to be the beginnings of a welcome “crack” in the good ole boys “business as usual”, free-wheeling, tax-spending mentality, on that city council at least.

Let’s hope as voters that this becomes a trend that continues as voters everywhere in the county remember the four brave soul’s who sent our leader packing with his hand out last week.    We can do the same to all corrupt incumbents this coming election.

DON’T LET THIS OPPORTUNITY PASS……….I encourage voters to go to the polls in record numbers and vote out the incumbents. It’s time for a REAL change.

Until next time,
