MCSO Press Release – Robbery, Pursuit, Suicide

Late yesterday afternoon the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office received the report of a robbery at the AT&T Store in the 6500 block of FM 1488 near FM 2978.

Two sales persons told deputies that a male suspect came into the store and lifted his shirt showing a gun in his waistband then pointed the gun at one of the victims. The suspect threatened the sales persons telling them “this is not a joke” and demanded money.  The suspect left the store getting into a vehicle and driving away without injuring anyone.

The witnesses called 911 and provided valuable information to the operators and dispatchers that included a vehicle description and a direction of travel on FM 1488 in the direction of IH45.

Sheriff’s patrol Deputy Jack Kimpton located the vehicle as it was traveling east on FM 1488 nearing IH 45.  The suspect refused to stop for Deputy Kimpton and the suspect was chased through the Forest Hills Subdivision and back to IH45 traveling north then turned south at River Plantation Drive.

The suspect made an attempted to turn into a driveway leading into College Park Shopping Center.  There the suspect vehicle and the patrol car collided involving a third vehicle.  The suspect shot himself and died inside the vehicle when approached by the deputy.

The incident is under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Section assisted by the Texas Rangers.
