– Conroe, Texas 3:00am Sunday – A male in an Isuzu Rodeo was spotted in the Speedy Stop parking lot, located on the corner of West Loop 336 and West Hwy 105, revving up his engine, and it appeared he was having problems with his vehicle.
He then exited his SUV, and I saw him kneel over on the ground behind his vehicle as if he was sick and needed help. I pulled my vehicle around and was going to ask the guy if he was ok or might possibly need help.
It became very obvious at that point that the driver was under the influence of something. We tried to offer the guy a ride home, but he was unable to figure out how to roll the drivers window down, and kept going in and out of consciousness.
After he put the SUV in gear and again started revving the engine, I decided to back away and call 911.
During the call to 911, the driver of the SUV had fallen asleep again, and his foot slipped from the brake pedal allowing the SUV to move forward and up over the curb, narrowly missing the cement poles on the side of the store.
The officers then arrived at the location and reached through the passenger side window and put the vehicle in park, and then walked around to the drivers side of the SUV, removed and arrested the driver without hesitation.
He was very wasted! I wouldn't doubt it if he blew the engine up in his Rodeo, the way he was maxing the engine out revving it up. When we were trying to talk to him about letting us give him a ride home, he rolled every window down in that vehicle except for the drivers window, and he looked bewildered as to why his window wouldn't go down, and all this took place while he was nodding in and out. I'm glad he didn't hurt himself or anyone else..
Well it appears you did the correct thing. I will call in a DWI, but I have to have some good highway bumper bowling before I will. You never know these days if someone is chaning a CD or texting. So i try and make sure. I am not the guy out looking fo them, but if they happen to be in front of me when I am driving and I see them. I will usually make a call. Not always.
Did you happen upon this guy or were you out trying to make some news?
Actually, I was headed home and decided to stop for a cappuccino. We went inside got our nightcap and when we came back outside and was getting into the vehicle, is when we heard him revving the engine and started wondering what was going on. I didn't turn on the camera until after we'd already tried asking the guy if he wanted a ride. I wished I would of thought of turning it on sooner, and got video of him trying to roll the window down. When I thought he was going to take off, is when I started recording. Definitely didn't go looking for him!
We were originally out taking footage of an accident that happened over off the south loop earlier, and after designated driver duties we just happened to come across this guy.
Don't get all bent out of shape!!! There are people out there that grab a camera and listen to a scanner hoping to make some news. That is what I meant. There is a lot of crazy stuff that goes on and unless someone photos it, videos it, or writes about, well it is not news.
So I was just asking if you were out with your camera trying to make some news.
