I had some errands to run on Sawdust Rd. today about 4:30pm and noticed at least 3 black & White State Trooper cars heavily "working" Sawdust Rd. between Grogans Mill (Starbucks/CVS) and I45. I saw at least 4-5 people get pulled over (none for speeding, the ones I saw get a traffic stop initiated on them were going 5-10 mph, must have been checking stickers/running license plates. One of the cars I saw was just sitting in the median around James Coney Island watching people.

Is this a normal/monthly event? It didn't seem like they were looking for anyone in particular – just making "quota" or gaming the area. The people I saw pulled over weren't thug/chrome rimmed/druggy types. I saw elderly, moms, people in nice cars.

I finally left HEB (I45 & Sawdust) about 6:30 and still noticed a few black/white HWP cars pulling people over in the area.

Not really alarmed, see this kind of stuff all the time but wondered about the legality of the highway patrol gaming a south county area clearly off of the freeway so aggressivly and if this is a regular occurance.

I'm all for law enforcement doing their job but what was the purpose of this?

Heya Power

I was in the area around 2:30 p.m. on the same day.  I did not see any of the activity you observed so it must have initiated sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

I have seen the same type of activity on SH 242 just west of I45 recently.

It could have also included seat belt infractions I would imagine.

I don't know if this is a regularly scheduled event.

I believe that area is in DPS jurisdiction so I do not believe there are any issues associated with this activity.

Legality? I'm not sure what you mean by that. They are State Troopers and their primary objective is enforcing the rules of the road.

I'm sure the purpose is they are tired of wrecks and reckless drivers so they either were told by a supervisor or Sua Sponte and came out there so people can take notice. Seems like it worked.

Surely the resources of 3 State Troopers and their cars could have been put to better use over a 3+ hour period than doing a sting on Sawdust Rd. for seatbelts and registration stickers.

Like I don't know, maybe maybe glance over at I45 where it's not hard (anytime of day/night) to spot countless wreckless drivers, excessive speeding, drunks, etc.

I agree.  That is a waste of resources for sure, especially in that short a distance.  What is that about a mile from the Grogans Mill/Sawdust split to I-45?

They(DPS) and other LEO agencies did this a while back on Rayford at about 5am.  I saw about five(5) different LEO's from Geneva to I-45(that's two miles).
