Woodlands Township Salaries – 2010

At the bottom of this post we provide two files related to monies payed to employees of The Woodlands Township.  One file contains the base salaries of all Township employees and the other contains additional compensation paid to all Township employees.  The additional compensation includes insurance, car allowances, retirement contributions, etc.  The additional compensation figures do not  include any one time payments such as bonuses or commissions.  An example of base salaries are included below (see Chart 1 for details):

Chart 1 – Base Salary, Car Allowances and additional compensation of selected Township employees

Don Norrell,  $201,960
Monique Sharp, $134,825
Susan Welbes, $111,148
Mary Connell, $89,771

Please note Norrell’s $1,400/month, $16,800/year car allowance.  A $1,400 monthly car allowance is approximately the monthly mortgage payment for a home valued at $260,000.  See Norrell’s employment contract for more details.

Also noteworthy is the commission structure in place for specific Township employees.  Certain employees in charge of soliciting money for Township promotional events receive a percentage of the total money collected for each event.  See Details

Chart 2 – Base salary, population, property tax rates and budget comparisons

Chart 2 provides a comparison of salaries and other information for The Woodlands Township’s highest paid employee, Don Norrell, and top paid employees from other governmental entities.

When comparing The Woodlands to other cities, please remember The Woodlands Township is not a city.  Therefore, an accurate comparison with other cities is difficult to obtain.  A true city has many additional responsibilities the Township does not have.  A typical city maintains it own police department, has its own public works department which maintains utilities and roads, as well as a municipal court system and an animal control department just to name a few.  The Woodlands Township, due to the political nature of it’s structure, does not have those typical city responsibilities.

With those caveats in mind, Sugarland, Texas may be the best comparison with a similar population and similar proximity to Houston.
