MCSO Press Release – Female Shot – Woodlands Mall

Deputies have now located what they believe was the weapon used by the suspect. The handgun was found near where the suspect was arrested.

Update 3:50 p.m

The suspect has been tentatively identified as Duvan Johnson B/M (DOB 7-22-1989) from the Houston area and has been charged with Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated Assault. A bond has not been set.

The victim struggled with the suspect after he grabbed her purse and keys. During the struggle she was shot. The investigation is still on-going. The victim is from the Spring, Texas area and there are no plans to release her name.

February 4, 2010, at approximately 10:45 AM a women was robbed in the parking lot of The Woodlands Mall and was shot in the leg.

Deputies responded to 911 calls from the north side of the Woodlands Mall near J. C. Penny’s at approximated 10:45 AM this morning involving a young woman who was shot in the leg by a suspect who tried to steal her car.

Deputy Dax Bayer arrived about one minute after the dispatcher broadcast the incident and was able to gather good accurate information from witnesses about the suspect’s description and the direction in which he fled. Sergeant Brady Fitzgerald found the suspect hiding in tall grass near the overpass at Lake Woodlands and IH 45. The suspect was arrested and was positively identified as the suspect by several witnesses.

While the investigation is still on-going and witnesses still being interviewed early facts obtained by deputies are that a young woman (age 23) arrived at the mall and as she was exiting her Toyota the suspect approached her wanting to take her car. A struggle ensued between the two and the woman was shot one time in the upper leg. She was taken to a near-by hospital where she was treated and is in good condition.

At this time the suspect has not cooperated with deputies and has not provided his name and has not been positively identified, but he is believed to be from the Houston area. The suspect African male, believed to be in his early 20’s, was arrested and taken to the Montgomery Jail. The instigation is on-going and as updates are available those will be released.
